It is reported from Umar (r) that Prophet Muhammad(s) said: “Do not exaggerate in praising me so much as the Christians did in extolling Jesus (pbuh) that they made him Allah’ son. I am only Allah’s slave. So call me Allah’s slave and His apostle.”... view more

"When Allaah granted Prophet Yusuf physical beauty it caused him to be locked up in the prison. But when Allaah granted him knowledge (when he interpreted the dream of the king) it not only took him out of prison but elevated his rank in society. Clearly showing us the virtue of knowledge, and that physical beauty does not mean a thing"

And (remember) when Allâh took the Covenant of the Prophets, saying: "Take whatever I gave you from the Book and Hikmah (understanding of the Laws of Allâh), and afterwards there will come to you a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) confirming what is with you; you must, then, believe
in him and help him." (Al-Baqara)

O ye who believe! If ye keep your duty to Allah, He will give you discrimination (between right and wrong) and will rid you of your evil thoughts and deeds, and will forgive you. Allah is of Infinite bounty. (8:29)

And indeed before your time (O Muhammad!) many a Messenger has been scoffed at; but those who mocked at them were encompassed by the Truth they had scoffed at."
(Surah Al-Ana'm:10)

Say, "Take Allah's color, and who can give a better colour than Allah? Therefore, we worship and submit to Him alone. "
(Surah Al-Baqarah:138)

Say: Surely my prayer and my sacrifice and my life and my death are (all) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. (The Cattle 6.162)

This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil).

And guard yourselves against a day when no one shall stand for anyone in anything, nor shall intercession be accepted on anyone’s behalf, nor shall ransom be taken from him, and neither shall any be given support. (2:48)

"As to the righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Springs, taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life. They were in the habit of sleeping but little by night, and in the hours of early dawn, they (were found) praying for forgiveness".(Surah Az-Zaariyat:15-18)

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. (30) And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty…….(24:30-31)

Allâh said: "Do you agree (to it) and will you take up My Covenant (which I conclude with you)?" They said: "We agree." He said: "Then bear witness; and I am with you among the witnesses (for this). How to Be a Muslim in America?

By Reading Islam Staff

In a Q&A session with the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) following a talk in 2010 titled “Islam In Deed: Rediscovering the Muslim Identity,” Prof. Tariq Ramadan answers questions on how Muslims in a western society could proactively give back to their societies without sacrificing their Muslim faith and identity.

If Allah is your helper none can overcome you, and if He withdraw His help from you, who is there who can help you after Him? In Allah let believers put their trust. (3:160)

With Him are the keys of the Unseen. No one knows them but He. He knows what is in the land and the sea. No leaf ever falls but that He knows about it, and there is no grain in the dark layers of the earth, or anything fresh or dry that is not recorded in a manifest book.(6:59)

By (the Token of) time (through the Ages), Verily Man is in loss, Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.(103:1-3)

The Most Gracious (Allâh)! (1) He has taught (you mankind) the Qur'ân (by His Mercy). (2) He created man. (3) He taught him eloquent speech. (4) The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning). (5) And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate themselves. (to Allah. See V.22:18). (Tafsir Ibn Kathir) (6) And the heaven He has raised it high, and He has set up the Balance. (7) In order that you may not transgress (due) balance. (8) And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient. (9) And the earth He has put down (laid) for the creatures.(10)  [55: 1-10]

Those who spend (of that which Allah hath given them) in ease and in adversity, those who control their wrath and are forgiving toward mankind; Allah loveth the good; (134) And those who, when they do an evil thing or wrong themselves, remember Allah and implore forgiveness for their sins - Who forgiveth sins save Allah only? - and will not knowingly repeat (the wrong) they did. (135)

Allah the Exalted says “The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion).” (49:10)

“Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge.” (58:11)

Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness to parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age with thee, say not "Fie" unto them nor repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word. (23) And lower unto them the wing of submission through mercy, and say: My Lord! Have mercy on them both as they did care for me when I was little. (17:23,24)

By (the token of) Time (through the Ages), Verily Man is in loss .Except such as have Faith, And do righteous deeds. And (join together) in the mutual teaching of truth, and of Patience and Constancy.(103:1-3)

Observing Saum (fasts) for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskeen (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know. (2:184)

So whoever of you is present in that month (Ramadan), he must observe Sawm(fast) (2:185)

Allah the exalted, says: “O You who believe! The fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (The Pious) 2:183

Thus We have made of you a community justly balanced that you might be witnesses over other nations and the Messenger a witness over yourselves. Al-Baqara - Chapter 2: Verse 143 (partial)The renowned Quran commentator, Ibn Kathir wrote concerning this verse that the Muslim community (ummah) qualifies as a witness because of its commitment to moderation (wasatiyyah) and truth. The renowned Tunisian scholar, Muhammad Tahir ibn Ashur, went on record that 'in moderation lies the essence of all virtues and it is a great protector against indulgence in corruption and caprice.'Yusuf al-Qaradawi has similarly observed that moderation is the correct path that leads the Muslim community to its ideals of attaining material and spiritual success: 'It is the divinely ordained moral and humanitarian mission of the Muslim community to pursue all its goals through moderation. Deviation from the path of moderation brings nothing but destruction and loss.'

Alif. Laam. Meem. Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false. Do those who practice evil think that they will get the better of US? Evil is their judgment!  For those whose hopes are in the meeting with Allah (in the Hereafter, let them strive); for the term (appointed) by Allah is surely coming and He hears and knows (all things). And if any strive (with might and main), they do so for their own souls: for Allah is free of all needs from all creation. (Surah Ankaboot : 1 - 6)

Allah the Exalted says:

“Worship Allah and join none with Him (in worship) and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masakin (the poor), the neighbor who is near of kin, the neighbor who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those(slaves) whom your right hands possess.” (4:36)

“And what ever you spend in good, it is for yourselves, when you spend not except seeking Allah’s countenance. And whatever you spend in good, it will be repaid to you in full, And you should not be wronged” (2:272)

“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah(Muhammad)s you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the meeting with Allah and the last day…” [Al Quran.33:21]

“And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor).” (2:186)

“Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance.”

Al Quran (11:3)

Seek help in Allah and be patient. Verily, the earth is Allah’s. He gives it as a heritage to whom He will of His servants.(Al Quran, 7:128)

“Verily ! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of Night and Day,― there are indeed Signs for men of understanding. Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire. (Al Quran, 3:190,191)

“And remember your Lord by your tongue and within yourself, humbly and with fear and without loudness in words, in the mornings and in the afternoons, and be not of those who are neglectful.” ( Al Quran 7:205)

“And whatever the Messenger (Muhammad) (s) gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, abstain (from it).”  Al Quran, 59:7

"…..And whoever fear Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine….” (65:2, 3) Al Quran.

Say: ‘Are those who know equal to those who know not?’ It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e., get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses).” (39:9)

“Those who (in charity) spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”  (2:274)

And (remember) when We showed Ibrahim (Abraham) the site of the (Sacred) House (the Kaba at Makkah) saying: “Associate not anything (in worship) with Me, and sanctify My House for those who circumambulate it, and those who stand up for prayer, and those who bow (submit themselves with humility and obedience to Allah), and make prostration” (22:26)

And Do“Remember your Lord in yourself humbly and fearfully,

without loudness of voice, morning and evening.

And do not be among the neglectful.”

Al Qur’an, Surah Al-Araaf 7:205

It is no virtue. That you turn your faces towards the east or the west, but virtue is that one should sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Book and the Prophets and, out of His love, spend of one's choice wealth for relatives and orphans, for the needy and the wayfarer, for beggars and for the ransom of slaves, and establish the Salat and pay the Zakat. And the virtuous are those who keep their pledges when they make them and show fortitude in hardships and adversity and in the struggle between the Truth and falsehood; such are the truthful people and such are the pious.
(Surrah Baqarah, 177)

‎(O Prophet), good and evil are not equal. Repel (evil) with that which is good, and you will see that he, between whom and you there was enmity, shall become as if he were a bosom friend (of yours). Surah Ha-Meem 34.

(O Muhammad), say to them, "Should We tell you who are the most unsuccessful people and miserable failures in regard to their deeds? They are those, whose endeavors, in the worldly life, had all gone astray from the Right Way but all along they were under the delusion that everything they were doing, was rightly directed.
Al-kahaf 103-104

Behold, We revealed this (Qur’an) on the Night of Power. And what do you know what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. The angels along with the Spirit  descend in it by the permission of their Lord  with all kinds of decrees. All peace is that night until the rise of dawn.

Then We bequeathed the Book to those of Our servants that We chose. Now, some of them wrong themselves and some follow the medium course; and some, by Allah’s leave, vie with each other in acts of goodness. That is the great bounty. (35:32)

Ramadan is the month in which the Qur'an was sent down: this Book is a perfect guidance for mankind and consists of clear teachings which show the right way and are a criterion of Truth and falsehood. Therefore from now on whoever witnesses it, it is obligatory on hire to fast the whole month, but if one be ill or on a journey, he should make up for the same number by fasting on other days.186 Allah desires to show leniency to you and does not desire to show any hardship. "Therefore this method is being shown to you so that you may complete the number of Fast days and glorifies Allah for the Guidance He has shown to you and be grateful to Him. (2 ; 185)

You are now the best people brought forth for (the guidance and reform of) mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. Had the People of the Book believed it were better for them? Some of them are believers but most of them are transgressors.
(3: 110)

Surely the men who submit (to Allah) and the women who submit (to Allah), the men who have faith and the women who have faith, the men who are obedient and the women who are obedient, the men who are truthful and the women who are truthful; the men who are steadfast and the women who are steadfast, the men who humble themselves (to Allah) and the women who humble themselves (to Allah), the men who give alms and the women who give alms, the men who fast and the women who fast, the men who guard their chastity and the women who guard their chastity, the men who remember Allah much and the women who remember Allah much: for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and a mighty reward.

Surrah Ahzab, 35.

O Prophet, recite this Book which has been revealed to you, and establish the Salah. Surely the Salah restrains from indecent and evil acts, and the remembrance of Allah is a thing even greater than this; Allah knows whatever you do.
Suarh Ankaboot, Ayah 45.

O people, Do your duty to your Lord, and fear a day when a father cannot help his own child, nor can a child help his father. Certainly, GOD's promise is truth. Therefore, do not be distracted by this life; do not be distracted from GOD by mere illusions - Surrah Luqman , 33

And keep yourself whole-heartedly content with those who pray to their Lord morning and evening in order to win His approval, and do not turn your attention away from them. Do you desire the allurements of the world? Do not follow the one whose heart We have made neglectful of Our remembrance and who follows his own lust and goes to extremes in the conduct of his affairs.
Surah Kahf, 28.

As regards the true Believers, men and women, they are all comrades to one another: they enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil; they establish Salah, pay Zakah dues, and obey Allah and His Messenger. It is they upon whom Allah will most surely send His blessings. Allah is All-Mighty, All Wise. (9:71)

Believers! Bow down and prostrate yourselves and serve your Lord and do good that you may prosper. Strive in the cause of Allah in a manner worthy of that striving. He has chosen you (for His task), and He has not laid upon you any hardship in religion. Keep to the faith of your father Abraham. Allah named you Muslims earlier and even in this (Book), that the Messenger may be a witness against you, and that you may be witnesses against all mankind. So establish Prayer, and Pay Zakah, and hold fast to Allah. He is your Protector! What an excellent Protector! What an excellent Helper!
